The Moon''s surface is covered in several meters of granular material (termed regolith), a mixture of rocks and finegrained mineral, rock, and glass particles (McKay et al., 1991) (Fig. 1a and b).Regolith has been created by the impact of asteroids, comets, and their debris over billion years of Solar System history, thermal gardening, and by the effects of radiation as well as solar
